Holy Mass
A Lutheran Church in the
Evangelical Catholic Tradition
A Lutheran Church
in the Catholic Tradition
"We do not abolish the Mass, but
religiously retain and defend it."
In light of the fact that the first generation of reformers around Father
Martin Luther never intended a split of Western Christianity, the above
quote is understandable. Father Luther was a Roman Catholic and
wanted to remain one. He wanted to reform the 16th century church,
not start a new one. Therefore, the Mass is the appropriate liturgical
expression for both Roman Catholics and Lutherans.

At Christ Lutheran Church, we follow the liturgy as it is laid out in the
Book of Divine Worship. It is a highly liturgical and rich worship
experience. Particularly in a time that is marked by competing values,
spiritual confusion and insecurity, it is important and most helpful to
firmly rely on guidance through the Holy Spirit, the Holy Scriptures,
and Tradition. To follow the same rites and speak the same words
that were spoken by Christians since the early church, gives us a
firm foundation for our lives today.
(Philip Melanchthon,
Apology of the Augsburg Confession, Art. XXIV)
As Evangelical Catholics, we
believe in the real presence
of the Body and Blood of
Christ in the consecrated
elements of bread and wine
in the Blessed Sacrament of
Holy Communion and that
the Mass is a sacrifice.

During the celebration of
Mass, we are united with
Christians of all times and
places, as well as with the
realm of heaven. The Saints,
Angels and Archangels
celebrate with us during this
holiest of all celebrations.
You will directly and
personally encounter our
Lord Jesus when you
partake in the Body of Christ,
given for you, and the Blood
of Christ, shed for you.
Mass (Holy Communion) is celebrated at all services on Sundays
and Holy Days. Masses may also be celebrated for specific
intentions.
